On time today

July 1st, 2007 -- Posted in Religion, Unification Wars, War and Terrorism | No Comments »

This morning I woke up to the news that the airport in Glasgow, Scotland had been attacked and that a suspicious package was found at JFK in New York and there is heightened security all over the United States.

It made me think of Jay and the fact that he is leaving for the Philippines today. I hope he manages to make his flight and doesn’t get delayed too long trying to get through th security checkpoints.

Today we all got up and ready in time to go to the 9:30 AM mass. Our new pastor Father Manny has arrived and so the message today was of his background and a little personal history.

They had free donuts and coffee after the service, but we went and got Chinese food instead. The parking lot at the church can get quite a mess to get out of, so while we had the chance we left.

Now I am working on researching infra levels and posting op while Judy and Carlos are leveling up Judy’s systems since she changed races to Miner yesterday. She has to finish before she comes out of DP.

Next week will be a short week at work with the holiday and all, so I should be able to get my infra up a little faster. It requires 2500 turns per level and I get 45 turns every five minutes so it is a long process.

We use a timer that goes off every five minutes to tell us when to make a turn. It allows me to get other stuff done while still getting something done in the game.

Well I guess that’s it for now.

A nice Sunday morning

April 15th, 2007 -- Posted in Family, Religion | No Comments »

Last night I stayed up pretty late watching people go out and fight while supplying OP and waited until some of my artifacts came alive so I could get some planets to add to my system.

As soon as I did that I went ahead and logged off and then fell asleep on the couch. I woke up early this morning and then chatted with Laila and some other freinds.

Judy and Carlos came down and were all ready for church so I took a quick shower and said my good nights to Laila and my friends and off to church we went.

Today was the second Sunday of Easter. The first reading was Acts 5:12-16. The second reading was Revelations 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19 and the Gospel was John 20:19-31. Father Cholo gave the mass and said that Father Vano had resigned as pastor due to health reasons. He did not elaborate and I will pray for his health. They have not announced a new pastor yet. The link to revelations is broken by the way.

Anyway the service today was about Jesus return and how Thomas didn’t believe Jesus had visited. Anyway when we got to the part of the mass where you greet everyone I ran into one of my old shipmates, his wife and grand daughter. We talked for a while and it was great running into an old buddy. Also their grand daughter was the cutest thing, about a year old, and very well behaved.

After that I asked the kids where they wanted to go for breakfast and they picked Jack-in-the-Box so we got breakfast sandwiches and came home.

Now I am updating the blog, posting outpost, and I think I will lay down for a bit. I also have to decide what to make for dinner. Anyway, I guess that is about it for the day. Time to get this posted and get going with relaxation time.

Third Sunday of Lent

March 11th, 2007 -- Posted in Family, Religion, TV and Radio | No Comments »

Well the weekend went by pretty quick and tomorrow is the start of a new work week. Last night I stayed up until 3 AM playing Unification Wars. Oh by the way they have a contest going on in the game so please click on the name of the game and I will get a point. I was out of damage protection and there was no one out to knock me in so I had to wait quite a while.

I then went to bed a reset my clock to 4 and set the alarm for 7. That turned out to be pretty unrealistic as I just slept right through the alarm.

I got up at 11 and took a shower. I was pretty amazed to see that Laila was still on Skype so I clicked on it. She had been asleep but got up for a while.

We did a few things and then Judy, Carlos, and I went to church and she went back to bed. After church we went to Wakmart and I got a new flatscreen HDTV and then we stopped at Jack in the Box on the way home.

Today was the Third Sunday of Lent and the first reading was from Exodus 17:3-7. The second reading was from Romans 5:1-2, 5-8, and the gospel was from John 4:5-42. The priest talked about water and that it is about the upcoming holy season and the people who will be taking first communion.

Anyway the church was pretty crowded and I am glad we got there early. After that we ran our errands and then when we got home I set up the new tv and we got it all programmed.

It looks great and speaking of that I have to get everything set up for Deal or no Deal which comes on soon. So with that I will sign off and see everyone tomorrow.

Second Sunday of Lent

March 3rd, 2007 -- Posted in Family, Religion, Unification Wars | No Comments »

Well, I have to say I have been kind of neglecting the blog this time. We have done a bit of running around, but when I get back to getting ready to blog there has always been something else to do.

Also this keyboard is one of those things with the funny shaped and uneven keys. It has been driving me nuts.

The game has been going great and we both have over a million planets now. Our federation is well into the top 20 I think we were 17 when I last checked.

They are moving servers again so we will go to a movie and get dinner, as much as I hate movie theaters. Also I was not excited by any of the titles I saw. I would rather just take a nap, though going out for chinese food will be cool.

Today was Sunday and we got up early and all went to church. Again the mass was in Tagalog so Laila translated the main points. Today was the Second Sunday of Lent.

The first reading was Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18. The second reading was Philippians 3:17-4:1. The Gospel was Luke 9:28b-36. The message was that God will forgive whatever you do as he loves us all.

After church we went to McDonalds and then came home. I am kind of bummed because I will have to leave to fly home on Tuesday, but I have to get back to work and get back into the swing of things. I was hoping all the legal stuff would be done, maybe next time.

Anyway time to get ready to head out for the afternoon. Have a great week.

First Sunday of Lent

February 25th, 2007 -- Posted in Family, Religion, Unification Wars | No Comments »

Yesterday after quite a busy day I went to bed kind of early. Laila and I tried to go out and reset our damage protection in the game, but others from the fed kept going out and I didn’t get a chance so I got up at 3 AM and went out then.

I collected quite a few planets and was going to stay out a little longer but was attacked by a member of another fed. What he didn’t realize was that at the time I was helping one of his fed members. He apologized and put me back into damage protection, and now I have a new friend in the game as I was very nice about things.

Anyway after that Laila and I got ready for church. We have a deal with the kids, sort ofg the same deal I have with mine. If you attend church you get to go out for breakfast, and if you don’t then you make your own breakfast.

Anyway Pearl and Denise went while Jun Jun and Tin Tin stayed home. We attended church across the street from the apartment and we got there right after the mass started. The mass was in Tagolag so Laila translated for me.

Today was the First Sunday of Lent and the first reading was from Deuteronomy 26:4-10. The second reading was Romans 10:8-13, and the gospel was Luke 4:1-13. With it being the first Sunday of Lent the priest wanted us to make sure we reconciled everything with God for the holy season.

He talked a little about Ash Wednesday which Laila and I missed. He also talked of charity and loving one another.

After church we went to McDonalds for breakfast and then we came back home to find Laila’s mother waiting for us out front. We gave her a sandwich we had left over and some corn flakes and then she watched television.

Since Laila and I had been up since 3 we took a nap. Anyway, we are up now but I am still a bit sleepy and the heat isn’t helping matters so I think I will take another nap. Have a great week folks.

Fifth Manila visit

February 19th, 2007 -- Posted in Close To Perfection, Religion, Travel | No Comments »

Well I am back in the Philippines for the fifth time to visit Laila and trying to adjust to the hours, slow Internet speeds and the noisy streets.

Anyway Sunday after getting home from the airport we tried to get caught up on some sleep. We work a nap for a while and then got up for a while, then another nap and so on.

We finally got up and went to church but missed the opening prayers and all because we were a little late. We were also up in the balcony and couldn’t see anything. Next week I will make sure we go to the morning mass and make sure we are not late.

Anyway Sunday was Seventh Sunday in Ordinary time. The first reading was 1 Samuel 26:2, 7-9, 12-13, 22-23. The second reading was 1 Corinthians 15:45-49 and the gospel was Luke 6:27-38 and though the mass was inTagalog Laila translated some of it so that it was about a message saying love your enemy.

After the mass we went to dinner at a Chinese place called The Super Bowl of China. The food was OK but after walking all over the place and the lack of sleep I was very tired and only wanted to sleep.

We had a lot of leftovers and so we just brought them home and Laila and I went to bed early.

Sixth Sunday in Ordianary Time

February 11th, 2007 -- Posted in Religion, Unification Wars | No Comments »

This weekend has sure blown right by. Last night Laila and I watched a couple of movies “Terminator” and “Species II”. I went to bed a little late but got up early and the kids even got up early.

Laila went out of damage protection and played with a new stack of ships that I came up with. It was somewhat successful and with some fine tuning I think we can make it work. I will use something similar when I go out this evening.

I guess the only problem with it is the f class ship. Someone told me you had to have it in the 5th or 6th stack for the NPC’s but then they were getting killed off fast this morning. Later some of the other guys said they were not a good ship.

Anyway we are getting better every day and our federation leader is always posting our names on the fed board for all we have been contributing. It is nice to be recognized and valued.

This morning Laila was still out of damage protection when we had to leave for church and all the guys jumped in and helped her out.

David also went with us today for the first time and he was amazed by how many people were there. The place was packed and he knew some of the folks attending. He went to high school with them.

Today was the Sixth Sunday in Ordianary Time and also World Day of the Sick. The first reading was from Jeremiah 17:5-8. The second reading was 1 Corinthians 15:12, 16-20 and the Gospel was Luke 6:17, 20-26. The priest led off the mass by reading the proclamation Pope John Paul II made when he started the World Day of the Sick 15 years ago. He then got into the gospel where it was kind of about greed. If you live it up in life now than you will have a harder life in heaven, where if you have a poor life now you will be rewarded.

It does not mean that you have to be homeless, just thrifty and do not live extravagantly. Just live a modest life and help others. It was a nice message.

After church we went to the Chinese Restaurant because the kids wanted to go there instead of getting breakfast sandwiches. Then, Judy and David went to the commissary after we ate. It was great that the entire family went.

After eating I helped supply outpost to a few guys in the game and we talked about some ship types and stacking. One of our fed members, Omi, went out and someone hit him with several artifacts all at the same time. They took away turns, cash, and ore, all at the same time and he had to drop back into damage protection. He was lucky he didn’t lose any planets. As soon as he recovered from the lack of turns he went back out and did very well.

That is the first time I witnessed a barrage of artifacts and he was lucky that he got into damage protection before he got thumped good.

Well I guess that is about it for now. I have to get started on making something for dinner. Have a great week.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

February 4th, 2007 -- Posted in Family, Religion | No Comments »

Last night I stayed up pretty late because I was out of damage protection and could not get back in. I finally just gave up and went to bed about 2:30 or 3 AM.

When I got up this morning Laila was upset. She was trying to supply some outpost but built it in her Titan system and came out of damage protection, then was getting hammered pretty hard by some high powered players.

I supplied some outpost for her and got her back in but she was very upset. Anyway after we got her in we sold blogs and then she went to bed and Carlos, Judy and I went to church.

Today was the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The first reading was Isaiah 6:1-2a, 3-8. The second reading was 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 and the Gospel was Luke 5:1-11.

The Priest started the message with a joke about a guy that was in the Choir. The guy could not sing very good and people were complaining. Finally the priest had enough and called the guy into his office. He told him that at least 5 people complained that he couldn’t sing. The guys reply was that 50 people had complained that the priest could not preach. Anyway the message for today was that you can do anything with god’s help.

After church we got some Chinese food and came home and ate. I played online for a while and then decided to go grocery shopping. I figured with the Super Bowl on, that the store would be pretty empty. I was wrong, but got the shopping done and got home and the groceries put away just in time for the game.

I am now watching it with Laila and the kids. Anyway, back to the game and chat.

Stayed up late but had fun

January 28th, 2007 -- Posted in Religion, Unification Wars | No Comments »

Last night I stayed up a bit late playing Unification Wars but Laila was coming out of DP Damage Protection and we wanted to see if what we had learned would work and result in less planet loss. We had been playing all day with members of both our federation and our sister federation and felt we had learned alot.

The first thing you must do is prepare a nice stack of ships. After I get this posted I will work on a spreadsheet to calculate that for us. There are many different ships and many different ways to stack them for defense or offense. What you do is make 6 stacks of ships. Each ship will have a certain power rating and so when you select the ship type, the power rating for that stack will be the power rating of all the ships of that type that you build.

When you attack your first stack or stack A will be the ships with the highest power rating, stack B second, and so forth. When you select your stacks your stack A will be up against the opponents stack A and so on. There are many different strategies for stacking and so I will be experimenting over the next few days.

Anyway the other thing you must do is have someone from your sister federation knock you back down into DP when you are done fighting. To do this you skirmish in your most remote system to preven planet loss.

This worked out great last night and Laila only lost 800 planets instead or the usual 60,000. I should have come out of DP last night too, but instead I went to bed and figured I would go ahead and get up early and do it this morning when I would naturally through the game time come out of DP.

The game is out of Singapore and so the game time is Singapore time. I misjudged the time, woke up late, and though Laila tried her best to protect me she didn’t have anyone from our sister federation to know me back into DP so I lost 60,000 planets. So now I know that if I will be asleep or at work when coming out of DP I should instead force myself out of DP before going to bed so I don’t suffer as much losses.

After checking my game status and saying the rosary with Laila, she went to bed. She was feeling ill from eating some kind of fish soup. I don’t eat fish so I was giveing her a hard time about it.

After Laila went to bed Judy, Carlos and I went to the 9:30AM mass. When we got there it was again fairly empty but was full by the time mass was over. The entry procession was a little different today. The music started and the altar boys and the lady carrying the Bible proceeded up the aisle. The only problem was that they took off and forgot the priest and did not discover it until they got to the altar. There were quite a few giggles as they turned around and hastily went back to the entrance of the church to start over again.

Today was the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The first reading was Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19. The second reading was 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13. The gospel was Luke 4:21-30.

1 Corinthians was very popular in all the Protestant Churches I attended after my Mother removed us from the Catholic Church when I was about 13 years old. I was very familiar with it.

The Priest used it to try and solve a few differences that have been going on between groups in the parish. I don’t know much about what has been going on but there are many different boards and committees and there have been some disagreements.

Anyway the priest talked about faith and hope and then concentrated on love. He told us about physical love and family love, but them concentrated on love for friends and neighbors. If everyone would use love for one another than the arguments and disagreements would go away. It was a nice message.

After that we went to Jack in the Box and grabbed some breakfast sandwiches. While there, we saw some woman that was fighting with the counter lady and the manager about her breakfast order and the fact that they messed it up three times. The manager and counter were hispanic, and this lady was yelling and talking fast. I don’t think they understood what she was saying. Finally she asked for a refund and left.

We then came home and ate, and now I am getting my blog stuff taken care of and leveling up in the game. I will now work on my spreadsheet, as I have a couple of things I want to do automatically and fast.

Have a great weekend folks.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

January 21st, 2007 -- Posted in Religion, Sports | No Comments »

Well I guess I blew it on the playoff picks. We just got home from church and picking up lunch and I saw that Chicago is ahead 6 – 0, then they scored again while I was getting my lunch, and went ahead 9 – 0. By the time I was done eating it was Chicago 16 – New Orleans 0.

Judy, Carlos and I went to the 11 AM mass this morning and I felt bad for Judy because she had difficulty kneeling because of her back. She made it through the mass though.

Today was the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time and the readings and gospel were quite lengthy today. The first reading was Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10. The second reading was 1 Corinthians 12:12-30 and the gospel was Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21.

While the gospel was about how every person and every position is equally important Father Khing used the mass to talk about how our parish is celebrating it’s 50th birthday. He talked about all the celebrations and activities that will be held all the way up to September which will be the birthday of the church. He did relate the birthday to the gospel towards the end, but mostly it was about the 50-year milestone of the church.

After church we got some Chinese takeout since it was later in the day. The last thing Laila said before going to bed was to remind me about spicy food so I got some noodles, broccoli beef, and something that looked really good, but when I bit into it the stuff was really spicy so I gave it to Carlos, who loves spicy food.

Wow the Saints scored a touchdown Chicago 16 – New Orleans 7. Maybe this will turn into a game.

Anyway I was giving Carlos a hard time today. He loves the show “Heroes” and he also likes “24″. The both come on at 9 PM tomorrow and so I was giving him a hard time about what we would watch. Luckily we will watch one and record the other on the DVR. Tonight will be a “Deal or No Deal” night.

Wow, Chicago 16 – New Orleans 14, this is definitely a game now. I guess I will get this posted and watch the game. Have a great day.

Ouch, a flag in the end zone for intentional grounding. A safety? Chicago 18 – New Orleans 14. This is a game now.

Update: The Saints fell apart and lost 39 to 14 so congratulations to the Chicago Bears who are going to the Super Bowl.
