Vacation

September 29th, 2004 -- Posted in Work | No Comments »

Well my latest group of students graduated today, am I decided to take about ten days off, mainly to get a little ahead in my classes. And then here I am blogging instead of working on schoolwork.

Actually I did work on some papers for school, but I figured to keep from burning myself out, i’d practice my writing skills here for a bit. I think I need to start writing my posts on word and then post them, instead of writing them outright on blogdrive. At least that way I wouldn’t make all the stupid spelling mistakes that I find, usually right after I post.

If I do them in word I can at least run a spell check and get rid of some of the mistakes. It still won’t correct bad grammar though. They need to have a program like English teacher, that will correct everything.

I was watching that civilian spacecraft on the news. I think it is pretty good that these guys are trying to come up with new craft for space travel, but when I saw it spinning and looking out of control, I had a few concerns on safety. I hope they don’t take any shortcuts on safety in route to getting something out there fast.

I had my hopes up today, but they are dashed. San Diego hasn’t had any measurable rain for about 180 days now. This afternoon the skies looked very promising for rain, but then the clouds went away. There is a chance for drizzle tomorrow, which will be just enough to make the freeways slippery.

And then for my first day of vacation which actually starts tomorrow, I get to go to the dentist. Yeah, that was smart, but at least this time it is only to get my teeth cleaned and to get told I don’t floss enough. Well those are my random thoughts for today. I guess I had better get back to school work.

I hope this is a bit faster now

Well I took some advice from some folks and have tried to speed up loading of my page. I removed a few things that may have been slowing the page down.

One thing that was slowing it down was my link to the World Net Daily news headlines, so I have scrapped that. Besides, I already have a link in my news section. I also had a few dead ended links and some bad html codes in some sections, which I have managed to remove.

And to think 5 months ago I couldn’t even spell HTML.

Visitors

Well this afternoon instead of doing homework, (hanging my head in shame) I decided to check out some of my linked blogs. I don’t do it as often as I used to, due to school.

Anyway, I was over at Drumwaster Rants, and noticed he is taking a survey of who is reading his blog. I thought that was an excellent idea, so I stole it and figured I ask over here on my site.

I have been getting about 50 visitors a day, and was just wondering who is reading my mindless drivel. Could you please leave a note in my comments section saying who you are, where you’re from, and how often you visit.

I am also open to suggestions to improve my blog, and will add your blog to my links section if you would like.

Thanks for visiting and leave me a comment if you have the time. Thanks again.

Here we go again

Well again the illegal immigrants are getting discriminated against, as too many are being stopped at DUI checkpoints in the grand city of Oakland. So the city has decided to nip that in the bud. They are going to shut down their DUI checkpoints. Now there’s a great idea.

It’s bad enough that this state has all of these illegal immigrants flaunting our laws in the first place. Now when in addition to being here, they are also caught driving around, breaking another law, they can scream discrimination and get away with it.

When I hear that their Constitutional rights are being violated I want to scream, as they are not citizens, so they have no constitutional rights. Pick them up for any law violations and send them back to President Vincente Fox.

We are not the welfare system for a government that can’t or won’t take care of it’s own people. The line has to be drawn, and the elimination of DUI checkpoints is now endangering the rest of the public, by not keeping impaired people off the road. Perhaps when City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, gets broadsided by a drunk driver he will wake up to the fact that we have to stop protecting the law breakers and take care of our own people first.

America’s Finest Broke City

September 26th, 2004 -- Posted in San Diego | No Comments »

Well as all of my visitors know I live in San Diego, known as “America’s Finest City”. Well, now we are going to be known through out the United States as “America’s Brokest City”. For years now the City Council has been underfunding the city’s pension fund and though it has been hinted and talked about, it seems that the wheels have come off the cart and the city may have to file for bankruptcy protection.

This city in recent years have managed to elect some miserable Mayor’s and city councilmen so I suppose we are getting what we voted for. These folks are always voting to give away the farm. And of course they never miss the opportunity to vote themselves a pay raise.

The city is almost broke so lets give ourselves a pay raise before all the money is gone. We currently have two city councilmen embroiled in a bribe scandal involving strip clubs, the third councilman passed away recently.

The city is broke so lets build the Padres a new stadium, right in the center of an area of downtown, where the Padres owner John Moores owns 22 acres of prime land. Heck while we are at it lets go ahead and research giving the Chargers a new stadium too!

About 1 percent of the population uses mass transit so lets dump 80 percent of the transit money into Trolley expansion. Got to make sure the illegal immigrant kids can get to school in the morning. Besides whats another hour or so of transit time on the freeways.

All of their stuff has been talked about on local radio shows, but now it has reached national level. I wonder if Mayor “It’s not my fault” Murphy is going to continue to blabber on and on about what great shape the city is in and toot his horn on all he has done for the city in his last 4 years.

Of course all of this is going to get cleared up on election day as these fools get re-elected to keep San Diego circling the drain. They will be able to continue hiding the real status of what is going on, and if they aren’t re-elected then the poor folks that take over are going to have a monumental task cleaning this and whatever else has been hidden by these fine public servants.

Had a scare tonight

September 22nd, 2004 -- Posted in Family | No Comments »

My wife teaches college classes at night so I am used to having her roll in late in the evenings. Well tonight as I was doing my college work, surfing the web and of course playing blogshares, in my normally carefree frame of mind I got a shock.

My daughter rolled in about 8 PM and asked “Where’s Mom”? I of course said “at work”. And, my daughter then informs me that mom was not feeling well and went to the hospital this morning. Well now panic set in, as my wife in the past, has already had a heart attack and a minor stroke. She also has a titanium disk implanted in her back. Needless to say the normally under control RWO freaked.

I called her cell phone, not in service. I called her work, answering machine. I called all the Kaiser Permanente sites in San Diego to see if she had visited. No luck. I checked the Traffic Incident reports section, nothing. Well I started to run out of ideas knowing I can’t make a missing persons report for 24 hours, when ma RWO walks through the door coming home from teaching.

Of course I was right there with the what’s wrong and how do you feel thing. She was like I’m a little tired it’s been a long day. She then told me she had an appointment with her back doctor at Scripps Memorial in the morning and he told her to stop taking a nap on the couch like she does in the afternoons. Bad for her back.

So it was all a mistake in communications. Thank God that was all it was, but it does bring about that fact that when you see your loved ones out the door, you have to remember, how will you feel if they don’t return home that night.

Things happen, car accidents, sudden illness as you get older, or other accidents. We had what amounted to a family drill tonight, and it got everyone quite spun up. Thank God everything was just a miscommunication, but it brought us a little closer together as a family.

Funny thought

Today I was taking a break between lessons, and heard a ship’s whistle go off indicating a ship was getting underway. I don’t know if I was just in a goofy mood or what, but it brought back a memory from back in 1990 when I was stationed on board USS Vancouver (LPD-2).

It was late in the year October as we were getting ready to deploy for Desert Shield. We were going to go out for about two weeks, and of course since we were getting underway the day started early. I went to work early in the morning and made sure my guys did the underway checkoff list.

We went to sea and anchor detail, my station was on the bridge. Just as the ship backed out of our berth and turned towards the Coronado Bridge, I happened to glance at the parking lot. To my horror, my car stood out from all the others as I had left my lights on. Talk about feeling totally stupid.

Well after we secured from sea and anchor detail I had to run down to my stateroom and fire off a quick letter to the Mrs. telling her to meet the ship when it pulled back in and be sure to bring jumper cables.

I really don’t know why I thought about that today while I was watching that ship get underway. I guess you never know when these things from the past will pop into your head. I will tell you that while I think it is funny now, it sure wasn’t 14 years ago when it happened.

So CBS has admitted they were wrong

September 20th, 2004 -- Posted in TV and Radio | No Comments »

So Dan Rather has admitted to being duped, but the idiots are still sticking behind their story? How unbelievably stupid can they be over there at CBS News. They haven’t come clean on where they got the documents, they have come clean on how they came up with the story, and then Dan Rather says he is not biased?

Sorry Dan, you should have for one, not aired the story. Two, after airing it and then having the doubts cast within hours, stopped trying to defend it. Trying to justify fake documents by saying the overall story is true, which still has not been proven, just don’t cut it. I still have not seen where CBS News has apologized to the President yet.

Well Dan Rather can apologize all he wants to the people, because very few are watching. CBS News has been shown to be the network that will make up all the news they wish to air. I hope thier advertisers see that too!

Another weekend almost over

September 19th, 2004 -- Posted in Training, War and Terrorism | No Comments »

Well another weekend has come and almost is over. Bummer that I spent most of today doing schoolwork. That’s because I kind of didn’t do anything for school yesterday. I just had to take a day off.

So this morning I got up and put the finishing touches on my technical writing stuff, and put quite a bit of time into my group project. That was after getting up and making breakfast for everyone this morning. My daughter had a friend stay over last night, so I made an excellent breakfast for them and then they took off for the day, I haven’t seen them since. Movies and the roller skating rink.

Well I see that Dan Rather is still sticking with the documents are real, though they have been disapproved by just about everyone. I wonder how long he will be able to sell that crap. More ratings for Fox.

When are we going to finally get aggressive and take out these darned foreign terrorists in Iraq? I am getting so tired of hearing of suicide bombers, hostages, and having to hear these idiots on Al Jazeera. They hide in a mosque, take out the mosque, end of subject. If we start killing these fools this crap will stop. If we keep letting them hide in mosques, or behind women and children. and refuse to take them out they are going to continue to kill our servicemen and the Iraqi people. It is time to get nasty, and time for the Iraqi people to start pointing these guys out. If they won’t I say screw them and we bring the folks home.

Michael Moore

September 17th, 2004 -- Posted in Politics | No Comments »

Well Michael Moore is at it again.

Last year before his Crockumetary Farenheit 911 he was invited to speak to the students at Cal State San Marcos, but it was cancelled due to the brush fires we had out here last year. He was scheduled to speak this year on Oct 13, but the President of the University has decided he is too partisan to speak right before the elections and the didn’t have enough time to schedule a conservative.

Now Mikey is upset and wants to sue. Read about it here: Moore Threatens Suit If University Won’t Let Him Speak
